Replacing my Panic
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:04:05 PM »
Hey guys.  I have had a trusty FlipSide Panic from C300 that I picked up at a tournament a few years ago used.  It was my step down ball from my Violet Gargoyle and gave me a very similar read on the lanes when they were breaking down in the track area and I could just move back right to where I started from after the lanes break down and just plug away.

The ball has cracked out around the fingers twice, and been plugged and fixed twice, and has yet again cracked out... So I am looking for a replacement.

It has am RG of 2.534 and .025 Diff with a box finish of 600 Matte.  It was shiney when I got it and probably around 1000 grit with a light coat of polish.

Both this ball and my Violet are set up with around a 4" Pin to PAP with CG at a 45* off my midline (like a rico drill only my pin is under my ring finger, CG out at same angle).  Violet has a 2 1/2 in. pin, Panic is pin in at a little less than an inch.

What I want to know, which ball would be more like the panic, that I can lay out the same way, and maybe if I have to adjust the surface on it a bit to try and duplicate the reaction.  The Ogre Pearl, or Ogre SS.

They both have around the same Diff, but the RG is a little higher which isn't really a problem.  This controlled layout will get it to try and read the midlane quicker and not be so sharp on the back.

Thanks,

I have a used Panic with VERY few games on it, 15 lbs, if you'd like it.
Send me a message, if you're interested and I'll dig it out of mothballs.

Its stock finish was 600 grit sanded, followed 2000 grit Degree polish.

The Ogre pearl is much stronger and the Ogre SS is much more skid/flip. Almost no ball is quite like the Panic; maybe the Orbit Extreme pearl, maybe it is close or the Desert Heat.

I had a Panic with a label drill and I currently throw the SS and the Ogre Pearl.

Both Ogre's are much stronger than the Panic. The SS is easily 7 boards more on the backend and the Ogre will start up much sooner than the Panic.

My Panic was also for when the lanes started burning up and I wanted to stay right and keep the same angle.

I wonder if the B/G Centaur would fit your needs with the right surface.

I'm just going to add that my SS with a 5.25 pin to PAP layout pin up over my bridge and CG in palm directly below is weaker for me than a similar drill on a Greenie.  I think overall unless the SS is drilled strong it is not as strong as a lot of people think it is.  It is the only ball I have had in recent years where I can move back towards the track without burn up and good hit.  I can't remember a ball that I could do this with. On fresh the SS would be strong but I don't use mine fior that condition as there other bals for that condition like an Ogre Pearl I'd prefer to use.

Remember all things considered....wood/synthetic, carry down, etc.

If there is any ball to give a chance on, it's the SS
