Sooooo, I bought a used Scorcher NPT from roystriker fellow Visionite.  I have a Midnight Scorcher but never have tried an NPT.  Most found this ball kind of iffy I take it from what I read and heard.

I put a SwitchGrip thumb in and basically left it same layout as Leroy.  Plugged the fingers as my bridge is closer together than Leroy's.  Pin next to ring making it about 4" pin to PAP for me. CG stacked below......X hole small 1/2" dia. about  1" below my PAP just inside of the VAL.  My driller put it on his Haus machine taking the tracking out.  I put 1000 ab then 2000 ab and Legends polish over. Very smooth finish.

Took it to a medium heavy house where I can roll a strong drilled 2000 ab Cell.  Moved right with my feet to sliding 20 and rolling 7-8 with an even arc to the pocket.  Sheesh.........this NPT came out in '99 and it's not a bad ball...reiminds me of the Blue Warlock's roll.  Down and in arc.  1-3 stuffed shot after shot...not as much miss room to the right but good gawd....I like this ball.  Go 231 and 243 then midlanes go where I am rolling it switch to Pearl Ogre moved to far off the line <2 boards left and didn't get it rolling off my hand> with carry down present and open in the 10th for 211.....5-7 split...hit it too thin with my Amulet Glow 5 goes in front of the 7.

Did I say I really like this ball?

You can't miss the Visionary's I took to the lanes tonite.  Bright blue, glowing yellow and bright pearl purple.  As pchee used to say "chicks dig the hot colors!"

I always thought mine reacted like a strong urethane.

I think that's a good analogy Gary.  Reminds me of a stronger rolling Blue Hammer.  Most reactive balls in todays market don't give you that arc roll playing straight up the boards into the pocket and I got great carry.  I did leave one 9 pin but I could stay put all night moving 1 board left with two 5 man teams with 1 wrongsider.

670 tonite all 3 games with the NPT on older wood 2nd shift with a 4 ladies league before us using plastic with a blown track and carry down.  

NPT is a keeper....over reaction you will not get.  Like urethane of old.  Easy read anything in the 1-3 the last 2 nights is 10 in the pit.  I've left four 10 pins in 5 games.  

Now for the life of me I don't understand why folks didn't think this ball was a keeper??????

Shh dont tell anyone about this ball, i have been shooting big games on a broked down shot with this ball and an older 3d violet pearl. The old reactives do not over react to these newer lane oils, control, control if you can hit a spot you can shoot big games with these old gems.

I have thrown a lot of the old Visionary stuff and was VERY impressed with the NPT and the Midnite. But alas, all of my Visionaries are gone now save for teh sinlge drill Blue Warlock I have sitting here.

Ball has less than 10 games on it but a cracked bridge...oh well :-(

Gary--which IMO is a fallacy concerning better carry.  So far the NPT has shown me the old control of urethane and better carry.  Fewer pins left in the back row of any of the newer balls out.  

I was thinking about this issue this morning.  If you don't catch an older control ball like the NPT well on your release you'll usually come up light maybe leaving a bucket or some variance thereof.  But you won't get the over reaction on the backend leaving nasty splits, etc.  You may shoot a larger overall score with the equipment that gives you that snap before the pocket.

I noticed using the NPT the last two nights that I "felt" that old feeling of making it sure it came off my hand correctly for a good roll and hit in the pocket.  I haven't had that "feeling" in awhile.  The NPT made me think more about my timing and release than the newer more hooking equipment hasn't given me......I've gotten lazy and I bet there are others that don't even realise it also have become lazy bowlers.  Something to think about.  

Is this necessarily a good thing? Hmmmmm.

I think it is all about scoring the big games with todays bowlers.  I think todays bowlers care less about average and the team aspect and only want high games, which they get with todays equipment but not on a regular basis.  High risk high reward.  The equipment out there today is geared for big hook or big backends which are great for the lazy, unsound bowler.  They get those big games they seek but also shoot the very low games because of the balls reactions.  The NPT which you point out is not a ball that fits these categories, but will produce a solid reaction.  I will bet you will continue to shoot very nice scores (average) but may not shoot those crazy scores, and that is why most bowlers dump consistent balls and go for the hook monsters.  Plus...you are at Village Lanes...drop kick for high scores..jk

Agreed Darin.  Depending on what pair you draw.  I happened to wind up on 13-14 at Village not my favorite pair for me last night.  Add to that we bowl behind a 4 ladies league with their plastic makes it not on the fresh which would be much easier for me.  The 300, I shot there was on fresh when the ladies didn't show on a snow day.  

The add Praiire different surface and lane condition more oil across the lane and longer then tonite I'm gonna try NPT at BAV.....again older Bruns Anvilane...shorter and more friction to the outside than Prairie.  If I can score in 3 different houses although not hard-hard it will show me that the NPT can be a ball for all seasons.  

I will be interested to see how the Solid Gladiator stacks up against the NPT.

Let us know how it rolls at BV.  I will call the score for you, just to prove my point, if you roll it all three games I will say 675 range.

One can only hope Darin!    BAV is my lowest scoring house but they took away some loads on the outside.  Not sure I will be able to use it all three.....we'll see.

Scott,
Now you got me thinking about older balls and how they are IMHO more controllable.  I would be very curious to see how the Slate Blue (rolls like a urethane) drilled with a control drilling like the "Rico".  This might be a neat little experiment.
