I have both these balls. My Crimson is drilled with the pin above the bridge, and the CG kicked out about an inch. Like yours, mine goes crazy on the backend, while getting great length. My Gryphon is drilled with the pin 3 3/8 and again, the CG kicked out some. The ball for me in box condition went long, and was too close in reaction to other equipment I already had in my bag. I decided to take the factory polish off to make it less squirty, and now it's a winner. It now definately handles more oil than my Crimson.
In your case, with those drills, I think the Crimson will handle more oil, but not by very much. The reactions would probably be pretty similar. As you know, both balls are medium oil balls by design. I found that neither one of them worked well on a heavier/longer pattern in box finish for my game. For me, the Crimson is a good light/medium ball, and the Gryphon sanded to 600 is a great medium oil ball. Hope this helps some.
