I am putting together some information for a league that I am bowling in, and was looking for a little input. All bowlers like to do comparisons between different companies equipment, and I was wondering what you guys thought Visionary's current line up compares to from other companies.

For example, I think that the Gladiator Solid compares pretty favorably to the Cell. The Cell has slightly more hook overall, but I think the Gladiator Solid offers a very similar look and feel with more versatility and more control. What do you guys think the following balls compare to within other companies?

1) Gladiator Pearl
2) Gladiator Solid
3) Frankie May Gryphon
4) G-3 Gryphon
5) Ogre Solid
6) Ogre Pearl
7) SS Ogre

Ogre Particle

I can only comment on the G3 and the ogre solid. The G3 is skid/snap, it hits dry and goes left, hates carrydown so I guess rapid fire pearl or kinetic pearl. The ogre reminds me a a T-road solid, big hooking down and in or a small swing, it wont come back if you swing it too much.

The Gladiator Solid reminds me quite a bit of the Vortex II, but it is smoother.
If you hit up more on the Gladiator solid it will not jump as much as the V2, but gives you the look you get with a V2. It's just more forgiving.

J/K That is a fine lineup if I must say so, I will have a Ogre Particle tonight in league found one cheap.

I rarely shoot under 200 using the G-3 to me it is the best ball they make, I do not have the carrydown problem. I just got a pristine Crimson Executioner redrilled I had laying around, it used to roll sweet and might be with me tonight to use in league.

I also just found a pristine Burgandy Gryphon in my ball pile, funny when you collect so many dang balls you forget that you have rare stuff too lol

It is another gem that works well for me, I had two of these and screwed up selling one. I also found a pristine G-3 at the bottom of the pile too, I guess being broke makes it like christmas finding new old stuff to reuse.

Tell ya what from what I am seeing these days...try as I might I am back to using a B/G Centaur and a Ogre Pearl with an Amulet Glow. Not enough oil anywhere these days. I might see enough oil at State to use a hooking ball and I amped up my ball speed these days.

252 w/ a B/G Centaur tonite...I'm going to get another before they are gone.

In reality, I hear all over (very few) that no one has enough oil on the lanes to use these hooking monsters produced today. Back to 2-3" of flare max.

BTW...I have an Ogre Particle that won't see any THS around here maybe State and other beaucoup oil tourney's might use it 5-6 times this year max.

Sorry gsback but that's what I am seeing and know.

I am inclined to disagree with your initial premise of the Glad Solid giving you more than the Cell. I admit I haven't tried the GS yet but I find it hard to believe, from all reports so far, that it gives you more control and versatility than the Cell. The Cell will handle slightly more oil than the Glad, maybe 1/2 a level or notch, UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. A house blended oil pattern may hide some of their differences.

So, I hesitated to add more.

I think they need some milder, less expensive balls under the Ogre & Gladiator series, with more "normal" or "average" types of cores (medium RG: 2.51-2.54, and medium RG Differential: .040 or so). This is where the Gargoyle replacements would fit, I'd guess. I presume this is the vacancy Jason intends to fill this winter.

The Gryphons and the Gladiators are on the expensive side (internet-wise).
(Glad solid compares to Brunswick Copperhead, or the Arch Rival/Rival.)
(Glad Pearl may compare to the Hammer Psycho, Track Temper the Smash Zone.)
(Frankie May may compare to the Lane#1 SuperNova.)
(G3 to the T-Road Pearl, maybe the Illusion.)

The Gryphons needs some advertising and changes. Since the Frankie May's stock surface is 400 grit, 99% of the people think it's for heavy oil ONLY and it suffers from that point of view, in the eye of the general public. I think it should be re-issued in 2 new colors with 2 different surfaces: a Black and Blue at 800 grit and a Green and White at 1000 grit polished.

No one has anything like the Ogres anywhere. So there's no comparisons possible. (Maybe, just maybe the Ogre SS compares to the Emerald Vibe.)

I just drilled up a brand new Orange Pearl Warlock and will probably drill up my last new Slate Blue Gargoyle for a new league I joined this year. SO I personally don't need any new ones, but despite its high price I very much would like to try a Gladiator Pearl sometime this year, hopefully before Christmas.

FYI...I have a Cell drilled relatively strong........compared to a Solid Glad like night and day. Cell lots stronger than a Solid Glad...especially on the backend. FMG and Cell are closer IMO.

Even my Solid Glad on a house shot was too strong.

I am glad Visionary exists for us low oil house bowlers otherwise I'd be pulling old crap off the rack to use.

I'm with Scott on this one. I use a stock sanded Centaur in one league and a polished one in another. I'm trying to use my AMB Bronze Centaur in a one of the other to start with, but not with much success so far.

I've gone back and forth on how to reply...so here we go.

First, thanks for the reply!!

Now, as for the Cell....I think the best way to say is that based on drill, I do see different results, and couple that with the houses I may bowl in and the leagues I throw in as well.

Glad Solid saw the most use this summer after acquiring it at the end of the Fall League. Three man league and I was able to use the ball longer because of being 3 man league. Now, I did use it in another 5 man league, but there was a little more plastic, so I could still use it even though the oil was pushed around a little more.

Cell got used more so in my 5 man Fall League and last year, we had 4 guys playing around in my area....so when lanes transitioned, I typically moved left and went down the gutter.

So....my statements about versitility and control stem from the fact that (a) I could use the ball longer on a given night and (b) I was able to play more positions without the ball rolling out or overreacting....both of which I saw with the Cell.

The Cell would handle more oil, but it also burnt up faster and when I did move right and times, I still couldn't use it....with or without hand in the ball.

So....that's why I have my opinions of the ball. It's probably the same thing that happened some time ago when I mentioned that the Hi-Rev was my favorite Hammer because of the control and lack of overreaction....and I think it was Doug Sterner that said he had overreaction with the ball.

As for Glad Pearl, another one that I see different results from...and Jason and I have talked about this. We've gotten to the agreement that because of the polish and possibly weight hole, it could explain why I see different results than what he thought I would see. Personally, I love the ball though.

For me, I surely agree with you. Glad Solid is much smoother off the break the way I have drilled mine and it's basic ball reaction. The Cell can be relatively smooth compared to a lot of big hookers but the Glad Solid is even smoother. The Cell is smooth compared to any other asymmetrical that I know of. Which is also the main factor that stuck out in the Char Ex the ball that the Solid Glad replaced. That's my experience and I've used both...both similarly drilled.

I'm using the B/G Centaur for my house ball these days. I ordered another one today.
