I decided to get radical during my Thursday Nights Men's League which I have been struggling dearly on the Greatest Wall Of China. With the drilling placed on the ball, it did exactly what I hoped it would do, and I actually bowled decent.
It is 16lbs, with a pin out of 3-4" and is drilled with the pin slightly lower and to the right of the ring finger, placing the MB on the VAL for early roll.
Some background about this ball for those who don't already know it. This ball loves oil, and is the only one I've ever seen like this. The cover stock is insanely "gritty" and as the night goes on it gets "grittier". Once it acquires enough oil on the surface, it feels twice as "gritty" as the Granite Gargoyle does. There were even a few moments I could have sworn I left some towel fibers on the ball.
Now on the lanes, I have been struggling with go long balls, or weaker resins that wouldn't check up. I recently tried the Purple Ice here but the backend is so sick that I couldn't control the ball. I started with my slide foot on 31 using 15 as the break point to stay away from the drier wall outside 10. The Scorcher dug in the oil early, about the 25 foot mark and rolled nicely to the pocket. This reaction was exactly what I have been looking for over a few weeks now, and I'm glad the Scorcher gives it to me. It's a very smooth even but heavy roll without a major backend punch. I'd say over the whole night I could cover a decent amount of boards, but that was in the freshest oil laid out when other bowlers were squirting up. If I accidently pushed too hard the ball wouldn't freak out on the dry, instead it simply said ok, and turned over back to the pocket. It has get up and go power as well as true "grit" to dig in the heaviest of oils.
To be honest I can care less about the hitting power of a ball when I'm playing on a condition that doesn't favor me, but it carries well enough as to where I only left six ten pins the whole night, which I picked up.
The Scorcher has given me the ability to play way inside the rest of the fluffers and have total control over the oils and carry down.
Compared to the ash black Super Carbide, it is twice as aggressive and eats oil for dinner. Probably thr greatest oil ball I've ever thrown.
