Ogre - First Impression
« on: March 13, 2007, 11:23:54 PM »
Well, they say that a first impression is the most important and this ball must have known that. Finally drilled up this "pumpkin" last night with anticipation of using it in league.

Ball specs from the start were 15.2, 3" pin, 2.5 top weight. Per the recommendation of Clintdaley, I put a label drill on this. Pin under and just right of ring, cg in palm. I also altered the cover before throwing it. I took it up to 2000 grit abralon.

Now my Tuesday night league is usually unpredictable as far as the shot is concerned. We bowl at 8:15 and by that time, the lanes have already had some use so there are multiple factors that come into play such as carrydown, occasional burn etc...

Well, lucky me, there was some oil out there so we start out with practice. Had a good look. Standing on 25, playing 15 at the arrows 10 as my bp. Ball rolled REAL SMOOTH. As the night progressed and the lanes changed, I tried different hand positions and lines. One thing that I noticed is that this ball reacts very well to hand position changes. Playing the line above with my normal release, I started to leave 10 pins, so I moved left 2 and target 1, changed my hand position and came up the back more to get the ball to roll earlier, and that it did. I was real impressed by how smooth the ball was no matter how I threw it. My hand position and release dictated how long the ball would go and then it just turned over very smoothly.

Another thing I noticed is the hit and carry you get with this ball. This ball does not send messengers for me. It just literally flushed everything straight back with extreme force.

I'd have to say that with the drill and cover prep, this is going to be my new benchmark piece. This ball will really shine on med conditions with this cover prep and drill. Very nice piece of equipment.

With that said, I like the Ogre enough to purchase another so I now have a Bronze Centaur on the way and am going to be purchasing a Platinum Test Staff Membership over the next week. Thanks to everyone for your assistance in making my venture to Visionary a pleasant one.

The best ball is the one that knocks down all of the pins!
