Hi All,

I'm proud to present to you The Visionary AMB Comparison Video.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/amb.html

I filmed this video awhile ago and im finally getting around to posting it...OK, i get a TON of e-mails with people asking me "Which ball hooks the most" or "Which ball hooks more than the other".  I also get a ton of emails with people saying how their "new hook in the box" doesnt move, and that their $100 mid price ball is hooking 10 boards more.  I have created this video, to hopefully help educate some people who do not understand the concept of roll out/flare out and proper surfaces.

I took the High Diff AMB solid and drilled it up with a fairly aggressive, high flaring layout for this test.  I then took the stock surface to 2000 Abralon and hit the lanes.  On the THS the ball did what i wanted it to do, it rolled out when i got it to the dry too soon, while keeping it in the oil allowed it to retain energy and finish strong.  I then took a Bronze AMB with the same layout and played the same part of the lane as the solid.  As you can see in the video, the Pearl (Bronze) retains energy much better than the AMB Solid, ON THIS SHOT!

The AMB solid is a VERY STRONG ball, and when used on the correct conditions will turn circles around many other balls in the industry, BUT if used on the wrong conditions, the total hook potential will decrease due to the loss of energy before the pins.

Now is this video the greatest or scientific by any means???  NO!  But i plan to use it as a tool to help explain ball reaction to those who just dont have the knowledge or just dont understand.  So hopefully you guys will take it for what its worth, and enjoy!

Thanks!

  • Former good bowler, now 3 games a week house hack.
Good Luck.  I have found that trying to teach people about this is like trying to get them to do chinese algebra.  They just don't get it a lot of the time.

Great video Britton,
I was explaining this very issue with a customer the other day.  He was trying to use his new NVD and play the lanes he "normally" does.  He says he shouldn't have to move with the ball becuase the person who drilled it for him drilled a "Long and Strong" layout on the ball.  I hate watching people come into the shop for me to polish up a ball made for a totally different condition than what they're using it for.  I always tell them I could have saved them money with a mid priced pearl.  Especially for the wall we bowl on.  Ohh well, money in my pocket.

Excellent educational video.
Now you need to market it, with some "Mo"-type lectures to go with it.

this is why people need easy access to education when it comes to our sport. No one is going to get into bowling and know just what happens to lane conditions and ball reactions... it needs to be taught and videos are the easiest and most effective way IMO.

O and thanks for the video as I havent been able to find any good videos of the AMB balls where I could judge how strong they are.

another great video by britton! just keep shooting video as I think you are doing a perfect job.

you have that great tweener release which helps to show how each ball is different. I cant tell anything from a true high rev cranker release video as they can sometimes get urethane to cover more total boards on the same conditions then someone like you or me could with reactive making it hard to tell what that ball can truly due with less hand.

would you mind sharing what layouts as far as pin to pap distance were? I know its an old video but if you know it would help some of us understand just how much flare we are looking at approx.

I think that just validated my reasons for trying polish on a dull mid-priced OP! Some people get the wrong ball(too strong)and then need help with their reaction no big deal. I don't go for premium priced balls, get plenty of reaction from mids.
