Violet gargoyle
« on: April 23, 2005, 01:34:48 PM »
Well I will be given the chance to use a Violet gargoyle in the next couple of days.  Now what should I expect?  It's a used ball (like new condition) and has a very weird drilling on it (as far as i'm concerned).  2-3 inch pin.  And it's drilled something like this.  With the P being the pin.

.......o o

........cg.....P

........0

There is no weight hole.  Driller that is letting me try it said that it stood up really quickly for the previous owner.  Just wondering what you guys think I should expect outta this thing.  here's my specs.

Ball speed: 17-18
Condition: THS
Style: Tweener
Revs: medium-high
Axis Rotation: Very High.  (1/4 inch away from both finger and thumb)

Her: I didn't say bowling I said, DRIVING, I'm tired of driving.

This may be to late to help you, but I just picked up a used Violet gargoyle. Drilled label. Ball appears about 1200 matte. I'm not impressed. I don't like the cover on this ball. Way to over under. If I send it out to the dry early it over reacts. If I play deeper in the oil, the ball can't make the turn and a weak ten pin is guaranteed. Over under hell. You won't see a review from me on this one because I gave it away. I can't deal with balls that magnify my mistakes. I like Visionary, but this ball doesn't match up for me. I think this would be alright for the fire baller or the fluffer. They could just lay it in the dry and not worry about over reaction. Oh well, so much for an all Gargoyle bag. ( I have the Granite and Slate and like them both.)

ya your not too late, I haven't even had a chance to try out that used ball I was talking about.  been way too busy.  By any chance can you remember what type of drilling you had on the ball?

Pin was right next to ring finger with the cg near span center. The ball was clean through the heads and mids with a big move late if there was dry. I found the move to be too abrupt and the cover too oil allergic for my taste. If you need the ball to provide backend, this is a good choice. If you produce a strong late hook on your own, look elsewhere.
