Visionary arsenal for JOG
« on: May 10, 2007, 12:44:06 AM »
Im thinking about doing the test staff before JOG so i was thinking of a good four ball arsenal because i have 2 in there that have to be in there.  The no mercy which by far is the most amazing ball and then the most important ball the spare ball

well from what I've seen at the past tournaments, and considering you already have heavy oil covered with the No Mercy (at least I think so, not a hammer head) I would probably go with a b/g centaur at about 4000 grit abralon for a good overall control ball, a Pumpkin for the medium length shot, Maybe the Blurple ogre for the shorter pattern (assuming they don't go stupid short on you and at least give you like 34ft of oil, and then something else, Don't really know what, I have never had problems with there being too much oil at gold (except for Reno 01').  With what I gave you, you will have one ball for every pattern (no mercy for long, pumpkin for medium, blurple for short), and then one overall control ball for anything you might encounter that your not expecting.

For the last ball I would suggest 1 of 2 things, #1 you don't have a ball that is really going to go long and snap, the Blurple is close but not quite.  On some sport shots a go long and snap ball is really useful, so that is one thing I'd think about (maybe a green gargoyle if you can find one).  #2 you might want to have a backup in one of the areas, if for instance the Pumpkin just isn't cutting it for you, you can pull out say a violet gargoyle with some surface and try it.  The last one is all up to you, But I really think the first 3 would be a great start.  Hope this helps

On Edit:  after reading revTrex's review on the Blurple I'm not as sure about it being a good short oil ball, Still think it would be a good ball to take, but not as sure on where it would fit now,  I imagine drilling it weak might give you a good short oil ball, but I imagine there are better options.

Yeah, the Blurple might have too strong a cover for a really short oil pattern.  Actually, though, a Green/Blue Centaur with some polish might be great -- smooth, not jumpy, a solid that really gets down the lane...could be good.

I would go:

No Mercy - You already have it, for heavier, longer stuff

Pumpkin - Maybe a little polish, maybe a surface change for fresh mediums.

Blurple - really nice, get this ball NOW, strong roll with good length for when the lanes start to break down a little, or when the Pumpkin doesn't quite turn the corner.  Go with maybe a 4.5-5 pin-PAP distance.  THIS BALL IS SO MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (I swear, I'm not excited about the Blurple)

Blue-Green - ultra low differential solid for short patterns, add polish, with maybe a high pin placement, not leverage, something like 4-5 from your PAP and over the fingers.

Spare Ball

I have never heard of "too much" oil at Gold...only people complaining about not enough.  So I don't think you could go wrong with having a few weaker balls...remember, they might let you play straighter, which could always give you an edge over the field.

There is a gap between the Blurple and the Blue-Green, but I have a feeling that you could either move in with the Blurple, if you have enough hand (and by reading your profile, you do), or move right, with the Blue-Green, and still be fine.

Good luck!
