charcoal & violet gargoyle

Hi All,

I'm just curious about reactions between the charcoal executioner & the violet gargoyle. If I was to polish the charcoal to say that of the violet and drill them the same what difference in reaction would I see ?

The reason i ask is I am in a position to get some new gear and I was thinking of getting a Frankie May for my oil ball and a blue/green centaur as my dry lane ball. If I polish the charcoal would I get a similar reaction to that of a violet drilled the same.

My arsenal would then be

Oil:  Frankie May or maybe the AMB Solid based on Jason's description before
Med/oil:  Charcoal
Med/Light: Crimson (yes I have one and still love it)
Light/dry: Blue/Green Centaur

Dale,
That looks like a solid lineup. I have not thrown the Charcoal but I do have two Violet Gargoyles and anything outside of a flood or a drought I can play them on and have had huge success with them. I am a easy flowin' down and in guy and can send you photos of my layouts so you can get a better idea of how I play if it interests you. Personally, I think the Violet Gargoyle would be a good addition as a Medium Oil ball. Even though they call it a mid-priced ball, it has the power to get the results of the high end equipment, bar none.

The charcoal should be ahair stronger.

Given that you have the Crimson and love it,
I would go with the charcoal.

How is your Crimson drilled?
I have about 3 charcoals, a Crimson, and a purple ice drilled various
ways.

Let me know how you are drilling the other ball, or how you have them drilled
already, and I can advise you on how to drill the charcoal.

Eric,

I have a charcoal already the charcoal & crimson are drilled identical. CG centre of grip, pin to the right of the ring finger and balance hole to bring both of them back to legal. Sorry I dont really know the technical name for this drilling, although I have some friends that could probably tell me. My pap is about 5 1/4 inches.

What I want to do is polish the charcoal I have (probably up to 1200) and add either the Frankie May or AMB solid as an oil ball and the Blue Green Centaur as the light oil ball.

I agree with Eric the Charcoal has a little more oomph than the Violet.  That being said the Violet is one of the best THS balls on the market.

given your pap I will almost guess that the layout is label leverage
Mine is 6"rtx7/8up and that is about where I have mine for label leverage.
IF you haven't done anything to the crimson, it should be at 1500, I would probably do the charcoal to 1000, depending on what you are actually going to
use the oil ball for ie flood.

I would probably suggest the Frankie May for the oil ball.

Ok,

Label leverage..ok...thats what it is then.

I'll get the Frankie may for the oil ball then, just need some recommendations for drilling the FM for oil (pin position, layout etc)

Dale--First you need to know your PAP, axis tilt, revs and speed and then get a knowledgable driller to get your balls laid out correctly for the different kinds of conditions you might see.    At least that's what I'd do.
