What You May Not Know
« on: April 22, 2008, 12:11:07 AM »
I am not sure if I have said this as of yet.  But, when I was at a tournament here recently I found out something interesting about the Ogre Pearl.  I was told by someone who is a reliable VBP Representative that the coverstock on the Blurple is the SAME cover as the old 3-D Offset Hammer with just a small additive in the cover.  After throwing my Blurple for a couple months now, I can see that as I used to have the Offset and loved that ball when I had it.  Not sure if anyone else knew about this.

I did not know that Steve but it does make sense.  The OP is my favorite ball for mediums and a great benchmark ball.  I got rid of a Hei$t also a good benchmark ball as the OP is just that much better and too much overlap.

Did I say I love the OP???

FYI.....I took my Solid Gladiator to 4000 ab same as OP and use the Solid Glad if I need a bit more read earlier than the OP.  I've been starting with the Solid Glad and finishing with the OP.  Or just use the OP if the pattern length is right for it.

Scott,

How'd you drill your OP again? I fogot.

(I had mine pin over ring finger, CG slightly kicked out: 5x3.5. Changed it to pin under ring, CG in grip center: 4.5x5. Much better reaction. STock surface.)

Jeff,

pin over ring 4.25" pin to PAP CG kicked slightly from mid grip center right to 80 deg.  Took it to a 4000 ab worn pad.  Works great for me on just about any medium and can move in and still carries well.  Perfect layout and coverstock strength for my style and technique.  Works pretty well on some carry down.  Love the arc propensity from this ball.  Reminds me of the original Track Havoc in hook shape and type of lane condition you can use the OP on.

Scott,

Mine had a reduced backend, with the new drill, until I discovered we had a ton of carrydown. On fresh shot, I moved 8 board inside with my feet and 2-3 with my target. Now I am beginning to see what all the fuss was about.

It is the favorite ball of almost every one out here in vegas that owns visionary, I myself have not owned this or the new gladiator yet, but the great orange pumpkin shot me a nice 241 game last night. People dig the great orange pumpkin just the colors alone and hit sell that fine ball.

Counting the days until may 31st when my first commission check shows up, I have hit 3300 already in 9 working days of billing. Hopefully i can get too 6-6.5k by months end, it is hard to control myself and being on here just makes it worse.

But hey it is cheaper to stay here then on a porn site or thinking about it maybe not

Hey Guys,

Before this gets out of hand, the purple/black Ogre does not have the offset coverstock.  The Violet Gargoyle had a coverstock very similar to the offset, but we put in an extra additive to make it respond a little better to todays oils.

The Purple/Black Ogre is a completely new cover, and is a pearlized version of the Ogre Solid.  It has not been used in any balls prior or since.

Your source was close, but wrong purple mid-priced ball.

I hope you do.  The Orge Solid and Pearl are great balls.  I throw them almost exclusively right now.
