Has anybody thrown this on a heavy oil pattern? I'm thinking about getting one for Nationals.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and have tried it on just about every conceivable condition and it has done surprisingly well on most.  In fact, it is the first (and often the only) ball out of my bag on league nights and since the house I bowl in has been wildly inconsistent with the oil patterns lately that is saying a lot!

If the lanes are really flooded my Epic Battle is a better choice but unless the ball comes out of the ball return dripping the Immortal can handle it.  You may have to move a board or two to find a line but that's not a problem.  One of the things I like best about the Immortal is that it doesn't have a tendency to skate when it hits oil so if you're like me and don't exactly have pinpoint accuracy it's nice to have a ball that can bail you out!

This ball is a solid reactive, correct? What does Visionary have that's a particle? I know the Granite Gargoyle was, is there any in their current lineup?

AMB Particle.  I threw a friends and could not keep it on the correct side.  320 grit wetsand.  Feels like a cinderblock if kept in box condition.

I ended up going with the Immortal Solid because I thought it would be a little more versitle.  So far I really like the ball.  I don't have a ton of revs and tend to be speed dominate, stroker.  This ball has really allowed me to open the lane up a bit more.  4" pin to pap, pin next to ring, weight hole in thumb quardant.
I left it in box condition.  I bowl on well maintained wood lanes and the owner puts out a shot that does include an OOB outside.  The ball will save it's energy for the midlane, then make a hard arch back to the pocket.  It is pretty strong though, and I could not even imagine this ball with this layout in a high rev bowler.

Ringing10,

1. The Immortal solid should work just fine at Nationals. It is not a flood or even heavy oil. In the vast scheme of things bowling, it would be considered a medium+ to maybe medium-heavy oil pattern when you start in Teams on fresh oil. The little trick is that it plays as if 1-5 board is slightly heavier than the rest of the lane (For Lefties, of course, the out of bounds is maybe 1-3 board.) So if you keep the ball inside of the 5 board and use a ball like the Immortal SOlid you should be just fine. (If you're speed domininant or if you have low revs, of course, you'll  need either a slightly stronger ball or a slightly stronger than average drilling).

2. Be aware that in Singles/Doubles it will be slightly to a LOT drier than teams and you'll need either a ball that goes longer or a lot weaker ball.

3. A teammate used a Granite Gargoyle and suffered accordingly. It was too darned early and he couldn't get it to wrinkle, being a stroker. It just burned up in the heads and midlane. So most people, unless you have a good deal of speed or you polished your ball lightly or a high amount of axis tilt, will not need to use a solid particle ball.

4. breakpoint was generally around 8 - 10 board on the right side, and you moved deeper as play progressed. In S/D, breakpoint moved slightly to 10 - 12 - 14 board, depending of how much use that pair got and what type of balls were used on it. Some people were able to use strong particle pearls, while I had to use my weakest ball, the Blue/Green Centaur, PLUS throw it hard.

Thank you for the info. That is the clearest description of the conditions I have read. Most just say that teams have heavy oil and D/S is drier depending on the squad time. I have a solid reactive in my Nemesis (taken to 400 wet sand) and several balls to use on drier patterns. Sorry for the mini hijack, but I am intersted in Visionary balls.
