Would like to try Visionary
« on: December 25, 2009, 01:19:45 AM »
Hi all,
I'm a L/M user and have been for years. Would like to try Visionary as I've heard many good things about them, same quality as L/M.
Need a suggestion for my first ball. I like the Buzz and Buzz Attack.
Would like to get something that might be close to them. I'm a low rev player with slowing speed , but can play many angles.
Merry Christmas to all.
Thanks
Bob

I would start in the Ogre line.  You could make a complete arsenal with that one line of balls to counter any lane condition.  It is a mid performance line so retail is around $150.00 per ball. VBP keeps it simple and the coverstock are very user friendly.  I would start there.

Something comes to mind. L/LM likes/liked to use particles quite a bit, so the New Breed particle pearl may be more along the lines of something comparable to L/LM stuff.

I agree. with your slower ball speed, the NBPP might be the perfect ball for you to get your feet wet with Visionary. If you bowl on a heavier oil shot, I'd also recommend the New Breed Solid. Very versatile ball that can adapt to a variety of conditions. Good luck with your quest and don't hesitate to ask for advice on any Visionary ball out there. President of VBP often frequents the boards and will gladly help out as well!

Good reply. I think the New Breed PP would very similar in overall strength and general reaction to the Buzz Attack. Not identical, at all, but in the same ball park.

As for the Buzz, well, for me that ball is kind of in a class all its own. BUT I kind of like the Gladiator Pearl to handle medium - light to medium oil with some degree of control and some amount of power, very much like the Buzz.
The Ogre Pearl is true control ball for medium oil, a 1/2 notch stronger and earlier than a Buzz, and the Ogre SS is closer but more skid/flip than I found the Buzz. Maybe a semi-control drilling on an Ogre SS coudl make it similar to the Buzz.

Jeff/charlest has it correct. I'd agree with exactly his descriptions.

If it was me I'd go with an Ogre Pearl help your lower rev rate. Fit just slightly above the Buzz. Buzz should go a bit longer and the Ogre Pearl under your Buzz Attack. Bit more rolly/arc than your Buzz. Coverstock on the OP stronger will help your carry and cover can be adjusted to match up to your lane condition comes 1500 polished but easily adjusted. Plus the OP is reasonably priced.

The other ball for a solid I'd look at is a Gladiator Solid if you are seeking something in the range of your Buzz Attack. This would be a medium to medium-heavy ball. Smooth arcing ball in OOB bit more differential .044 for help with your lower revs.

If it was me I'd stay away from the NBPP as it will be to close to your Buzz Attack as you have that space covered.  Latest BTM shows BA and NBPP very closely related as far as strength.   Also I'd go for a solid resin rather than more particle.  Solids being easier to change larger ways of ball motion than particles IMO.

I find the Visionary covers/balls to last as long as LM/L (I've had a few LM/L) so you have a good comparison most are higher Rg for length and help your ball speed issue.

I think you'll like what you see Bob.

Scott,

I think you got it backwards.

I believe he wants something similar to the Buzz and Buzz Attack. I think he does not have them.

Ooops I read it that he had both of of them.

Bob what LM/L balls do you have and use?  What are you looking for in ball reaction?

The only thing that catches my eyes are the words low rev with slowing speeds.

With that in mind, wouldn't the better ball be something that's going to have a little more core reaction....something with higher diff?

The Ogres, especially the Pearl, are strong....but I'm wondering if the diff will allow the ball to get into a good enough roll for low revs.

I would think that the New Breeds and Gladiators would be the better choice...strong drill....perhaps a little polish on a solid?

Can't go wrong with anything.....but matching up is half the battle!!

gs,

The problem is everything is relative. "low revs with slowing speed" can mean different things to different people. I just decided to go with his request: something like the Buzz and the BA. "The customer is always right."

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. I have the Buzz and Buzz Attack, along with most everything L/LM has produced. Just looking to not lock myself out of something that might help. I will take all suggestions into account while thinking this over. Also it should be noted that I do throw 14lbs. I'm not looking to relace my L/LM stuff. just wondering why I hear so many positives. I'm from the Dayton, Ohio area and don't see much of this equipment.
Again, thanks and keep adding if you have anything else to add.

Bob,

I have been throwing VBP all year long and I have slower ball speed and a fair amount of revs....the houses I bowl at are fairly dry and dry up even faster...I have had great luck with the Ogre Solid and Ogre SS.....if there is a huge amount of oil out there that the Ogre Solid wont roll well on I switch to the Immortal Solid and it definitely does the trick....I have also had the Ogre Pearl and Immortal Pearl and they didnt roll well for me but I wasn't very confident in the way they left my hand either.

All and all I have been very impressed with VBP and Im averaging around 225 this year and bowling better than ever.  I really like the way they seem to always stay in play and keep the pins low to the deck....just my .02 from someone whos been throwing VBP quite a bit this year....hope this helps.

Bob,

Then, I stand by what I have said.  I have used Visionary since they started in 97/98 and have a pretty good idea about their lines.

I would not load up with other balls like the Buzz (SS close) and Buzz Attack (NBPP close) since you have them covered.  Ogre line still is a well priced line for most.

I'd pick a ball somewhere in the middle and go from there.  Get an idea what it will do compared to your other stuff.

Good luck Bob!

I would start with an Ogre SS. A great ball at a fair price. If you like that you can build from there. Good Luck!
