Teen Masters Regional Qualifier 5/30+31
« on: May 24, 2009, 11:46:29 PM »
There will be a Teen Masters Regional Qualifier next weekend (May 30+31) at Bowl-O-Rama, Newington, CT. This is the last qualifier for the year.

Remember there is also a new Collegiate Division this year!

Kathi, why would you support someone who is notorious for not paying kids their scholarhsip money?

I'm running the regional because I was asked to do so by the owners of the center hosting the event. I've known Gary for years. Caitlin has competed in several of Gary's tournaments over the years. Gary was slow paying Caitlin's scholarship money - earned prior to his using SMART - but we did receive all of it.

USBC tells me that Teen Masters has been submitting the scholarship money to SMART. If that is the case, then the kids scholarship money should be protected - and any non-payment the problem of USBC.

I can tell you for a fact that I know several prominent Juniors who had trouble getting their money......I would certainly not mention their names here but I have spoken to each of them personally about this. One of them had still not received what they won last August as of March of this year. The rules say 60 days. Another person who won "a lot" took over a year to get their money. It's called Gary Beck cash flow. Why should anyone have to "go after" the people who run tournaments. The only fault in this is that USBC only cares that they have his money. Thye should care more about the time and effort their dues paying members have to take to go get what they have rightfully earned. Teen Masters is a joke.

I received the following quote from Mark Grubich,USBC Senior Rules Counselor last April:
"In answer to your allegations about scholarship funds, upon receipt of a specific complaint from a youth or their parent or legal guardian pertaining to failure to properly forward scholarship funds to SMART, we will act in contacting the tournament manager with the complaint information to obtain their comments, etc..  Future tournament certifications are not automatically suspended at this point.  Any parent or legal guardian could subsequently file suspension charges against the tournament manager if they fail to cooperate in the proper deposit of the scholarship funds to SMART after being instructed to do so by our office."

Following that, we had trouble getting Caitlin's Ct Pepsi scholarship money won in April/May. By September USBC still had not received it. They also told me to contact the tournament director. They did manage to get it for me early in October. Happily Caitlin has aged out and I personally don't have to worry about this any more.

Anybody having issues with any organization/tournament should personally boycott it. My family hasn't been to JOG in 4-5 years. Yet I run qualifiers because my bowlers still want us to do so.
