« on: January 13, 2006, 03:27:34 PM »
Ronnie just made top 5 in the team USA championships and gets to be on the team and PJ Haggerty finished 6th and actually averaged higher then Ronnie but didn't get picked by the selection committee. Ronnie is pretty much a beasti bowled next to him alot in the main event...congrats.

The Top 5 are automatic.  Picking a 12th place over a 6th place I can't see, except that he's a lefty.

Maybe they took 12th place Rhino because he was on the team this past year...and being left handed don't hurt

Congrats to ronnie, bowled with him in mjma's and the kid is absolutely phenominal. He has amazing skills and an innate ability to find a scoring line very quickly. Great game and very nice individual!

Every year someone gets "screwed" in the selection process.  It's nothing new.  Guys pretty much expect "not to be picked" if they don't make the automatic top 5.  I guess they figured since he was already representing Jr. Team USA, why not go with someone already proven to be a dominate Amatuer Team USA competitor.  Thus Haynes, Hoffman, and Rhino who all have a ton of medals overseas between them.

Rhino was the defending champ and they usually give the defending champ a nod.  Rhino could easily have gotten the nod due to the fact he was the only lefty to make an impact.(Considering the left was much tougher than the right this past week)

PJ had a very bad finish to the 2nd match play block on Thursday. MM2004 was sitting in the stands with me to witness that.

They only have 3 extra spots to give and with a large number of newbies qualifying in the top 5 spots they had to go for the experience down the page.  It is never an easy process to select the extra picks but our system is much much fairer than what happens in other countries.

Jaime...

Both divisions follow the same criteria when picking their "at large" members. This year, in particular, the NSC just so happened to pick the 6-8 seeds on the women's side. Check on bowl.com, you'll see that it's different from year to year.
