Howdy,
JBT SW will be running the 35th annual Desert Open July 28-30. The big news is that we're going to run the EXACT current PBA National format- 14 games of qualifying, cut to top 32, then best 4-of-7 matchplay. Pretty sweet, I think.
Here's what I'd like feedback on: linage will be $30. Expenses and awards will be between $5 - $10 or less.
If we go on a $30 per entry prize fund ($70 total entry fee), teh prize fund (based on 60 entries, which is reasonable) would be:
$500
$300
$200
$200
$150
$150
$150
$150
If we use $50 prize fee ($90 entry fee), teh prizes could be:
$1000
$600
$300
$300
$200
$200
$200
$200
If we use $70 prize fund ($105 entry fee), the prizes could be:
$1000
$600
$400
$400
$200 for 5th-8th
$100 for 9th-16th
So..... what, as a junior bowler, would you prefer? More specifically, what would be most enticing for you to come to this tournament, prize wise. We think (hope) you'll jump at the chance to bowl the actual PBA format (on a PBA-type condition), even if it means another trip to the desert in the summer.
Serious replies appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff Hemer, JBT SW

Good Idea, just depends on the house and the shot.

Well this is one of the formats I called for, so the entry fee wouldnt matter to me...but then again it all matters on some things on rather I turn right after Gold or not...

Howdy,
Part of the event will be that it will be on a PBA pattern (or close approximation thereof because of copyright issues).
Unfortunately I'm nervous about scheduling at Country Club right now due to the unfortunate circumstances there. It will be held somewhere in Phoenix, though. ou can probably guess the likely places.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,
All Phoenix Brunswick houses would be unable to host us. They would never do a tournament on a Friday night, and would charge way more linage than what comes out to $30 per bowler.
Give me your prize fund suggestions first- we'll worry about the rest after that!!!
Thanks,
Jeff

JenSen,
Tentative format:
Friday night, 7 games qualifying
Saturday morning, 7 games qualifying, cut to top 32
Saturday afternoon: round of 32, best of 7
Sunday morning: rounds of 16 and 8, best of 7
Sunday afternoon: rounds of 4 and 2
All conducted on a PBA-type shot. Copyright issues prevent bowling on the actual pattern.
Thanks,
Jeff

The higher entry fee looks best. But I almost want to say that you have to win at least two matches to cash, so take the money from 9th-16th, and put towards 1st-8th.
And since this format is going to be the exact same as the PBAs' (thank you), can there also be a side tournament..........a skills challenge?!?!?!?

i agree with Brian completely... add the money to 1st-8th and really work for cashing... and that way its a higher prize for 1st-8th as well
the skills challenge sounds freakin awesome that would be tight
(Matt Jones could go throw a normal shot and say we have to replicate it, and he would win no matter what) :-D

i think a good trick shot for shelb would be throw it with his back swing so his arm is at a 90 degree angle with his body.. not 180 :-D !!!!
love you shelby

he gets it from his brother mason...well no one can put as much elbow into the shot as me, except maybe J R Monteith...
Lets have a tournament where everyone has to throw back up balls for their strike shots!!! and when i say back up ball i dont mean shelby status

And Then...........
I left another 10 pin

A good trick shot for Mason would be to set the ball down before the arrows while keeping his head straight instead of tilted 90 degrees.
