How To Get Into Junior Golds?
« on: April 02, 2006, 01:32:37 PM »
It's probably too late to try and get into it this year, but next year I want to try and bowl at the National Junior Gold in Buffalo. Right now, I'm about to complete my first season back to bowling from a 2 year break, and I've bumped my average up to a 202, and I've been bowling more and more consistantly lately (with the help of a coach). I'm planning on working hard at my game to be able to compete next year with the big boys.

Can anyone help to steer me as to how I can get started or where to start even? I've looked, but nothing is really helpful to me online.

If you still want to try and get qualified for this year, MJMA has 4 maybe 5 guys spots that its giving out at its last two tournaments this season.  For information go to www.mjma.net  they are held in various parts of Michigan.  The next tournament is on the east side of the state in Grand Blanc and is going to be held on April 22nd, and 23rd.  As of right now, i think we are the only organization that has junior gold spots left since we've been contacted by 5 other organizations asking to buy out a couple of our spots. Just so everyone knows, we are not going to sell them so if you want to try to get in this year, check the website and fill out an entry form.  Spots are filling fast though so you better hurry up.

JTBA of Ohio still has two spots left which will be awarded this coming weekend at its youth doubles event in suburban Columbus.  jtba.com for more information there.

Ahh...everything is too far away for me. Anything anywhere near Virginia or North Carolina?

I know that there's not much chance to get in this year, so what I would really like to know is how do I go about going for it next year? Are there applications I have to fill out before I can participate in Junior Gold tournaments?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Before you can earn a spot you have to become a member of junior gold...you should be able to do this on site at any qualifying event...pretty sure its 30 bucks for new members...once you're a member, you can attempt to qualify for nationals at any junior gold qualifying event, there is a list over on bowl.com under the youth section.  Usually somewhere between 1:5 and 1:10 qualify at each event.
