JOG
« on: November 08, 2005, 08:21:45 AM »
I heard rumor that JOG is going to be moved from Florida due to the recent hurricanes.  I called for a hotel room and the phone lines are down.  I was wondering if anyone else heard anything

Yeah, Sawgrass Lanes is messed up. I think they lost their roof. I bowled with some kids over the weekend and they said that it wont be open for awhile, acouple of months I think.

Wow, well that sucks for the lanes, but I hope this is beyond true, and they do move it out of Florida...sorry, but FL is horrible! It would be awesome if they could move Gold back towards the West finally, and not just fine some other alley in FL to go too. We will just have to wait and see I guess...

I know the west coast people all want it out there...which I can understand, but I wish there was some sort of central location that would work for the tournament on a yearly basis.  Having it in the same place year after year would do a number of things, one of which being that it would cut down on the number of people using the tournament as simply a vacation, and trimming the field...I thought Indy was very very well suited for this...for the most part it is in the center of the country, accesable by quite a few interstate, plenty of hotels, 3 big nice centers, and an interstate system in the city that made getting anywhere a 20 minute trip (unlike the hour in dallas to cityview)...

I actually think that kids showing up that have no desire to bowl is a bad thing in this case.  The tournament is designed to pick the youth national team.  As such, there are not 1600 kids in the country with a chance to make that team once they arrive at JOG.  I would much rather see a field similar to that of the Adult Team USA Trials.  If the purpose of the tournament is to select that team, what is the point of having people there who have no desire to be a part of it?

I don't think however, that those who want to go on a vacation to bowl a national tournament should be shut out and not have anywhere to bowl...which is why i think there is a place in youth bowling for a tournament similar to the abc/wibc tournaments...if you think about it, jog is akin to the team usa trials, not the abc/wibc tournaments.  Those tournaments are open to everyone, and are more of a "fun" based event, whereas jr. gold should be a week of serious bowling for those who desire to (and are qualified) to represent our country.

Even though I live in Florida and I would not have to take a long trip....Vegas would be a great place to move it to if worse come to worse.
