Title: LAKERS
Post by: tourpower on May 21, 2004, 10:07:43 AM: Are the Lakers going to be stopped now? I dont think so. The only team that had a chance to beat them was the Spurs and they dismissed them. I want to know what you think about the Lakers and what your favorite team is. I know the So-cal bowlers here are mostly all Laker fans except for Matt Jones.

On a side note, I'm sure Kobe will get out of his legal trouble because of his $$$ and because of "who" he is and thats just not fair, but oh well..

I would rather watch reruns of Andy Griffith than watch the NBA nowadays..

Like I said earlier, I could care less who wins..

Just keep believing Kobe walks on water.. Regardless of the rape charge, he was a married man screwing another woman, but I guess thats OK since he is an NBA superstar.. I will agree, he is a great basketball player, but he is for sure NO role model for kids or adults for that matter..

No I am not saying adultery is a federal offense, and if you read my post again, I never once said that. I just made a statement that what he did was wrong and he is a poor example of a married man thats supposed to love his wife and family..

If it is found in a court of law that he did rape that woman, regardless of her past, he should serve as much time as I would if I did it, period..

While rape shield laws do serve a good and useful purpose (protecting the purported victim's reputation from being further tarnished), I agree with your sentiment and believe that in cases such as this, the rape shield laws should be allowed to bypassed at a judges discretion, if in his opinion, the facts of the case warrant it.

(Damn that was a long sentence!)

Tim Duncan is only the superstar that he is because of David Robinson when they were tha twin towers. Even when tha Suprs had both of them they couldn't win the title. The only reason they won it last year was not because of Tim Duncan. If you look back into the series from last year and this year you will see that everyone on the Spurs contributed. In games one and two against the Lakers Parker was going off. So you can't say that they would be in last place in their division if Duncan wasn't there. To me, I don't think that Garnett should be MVP. I'm not taking nething away from the man, but if anyone deserves MVP it should be D. Fish because of that remarkable shot with .4 seconds, because if he didn't make that shot I think that tha Spurs would have won the whole thing.

BTW, take Fisher from the team, and Kobe would have made that shot, so he is DEFINITELY not the most valuable player.

He only led his team to the #1 seed in the Western Conference, in which they had to play Shaq's Lakers, Duncans Spurs, Bibbys Kings, Yaos Rockets, Melos Nuggets...and you question whether he is the MVP?

You dont win championships without team efforts...The Spurs and Lakers have proved that the last 5 years. Garnett has rallied his TEAM...to become the best in the West. He has dominated the leagues best big men in both statistics, and more importantly, wins.

Garnett, Sprewell, and Cassell have combined for over 65 points per game so far in the playoffs, and alot of credit must be given to Sprewell and cassell for this years success. But without Kevin Garnett, that team would not be nearly as productive as they are...he has pushed them over the top this season.

Some of you think the MVP should go to a guy who is needed for a team in order to have any chance of winning. I think there are situations when it should be in the hands of the guy who finally pushes his team over the top. Just because a team would probably not make the playoffs if one key player wasnt there, doesnt mean he should get the honors. Or else Paul Pierce, who i think is the most overrated player in the league, would technically qualify for the MVP.

With all due respect to Duncan, Shaq, Kobe and everyone who stars in the NBA, the last 82+ games have been dominated by KG...and one 16 point performance against 87 year old Karl Malone after a draining game 7 less than 48 hours before is no reason to put down a guy who just put up 30 and 20 in a game 7. Tonight proved that, and if anyone can go to LA and split to regain home court, its GARNETTS T-WOLVES.

The only team that can beat the Lakers right now are the Pistons I think. They have great rebounding skills and unbelievable blocking skills. If shaq can make his free throws then I think that they cant beat them but if he misses them it will be hard.

It is wonderful when a team has the right dynamics.

The power of rebounding by Ben Wallace is underestimated.

Both offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds.

I believe that his rebounding alone accounts for almost a 30 point difference to his team. All the second shots his team gets and all the one shot only series that the Lakers get. And the beauty of rebounding is it is more consistent than scoring.

I really don't believe it is truly the phrase "great defense" that is the difference. It is the rebounding by Wallace combined with his new teammate Wallace! Wow!

As important to their probable upcoming championship as Michael J. and Scottie Pippens ability to get their fingers on the ball from nearly anywhere(defense), Bill Walton's passing, and now Ben Wallace uncanny rebounding.
PS did you see Wallace's snuff of Shaq in the losing game 2 effort! Wow!
