Local site a few juniors made (JBC)
« on: August 29, 2005, 01:53:45 PM »

So, I had the idea a few weeks ago to make this year a bit more interesting.  Our tournaments around this area have kind of died down with the rapid increase of bowlers moving up to the adult rankings, leaving us juniors rapidly deminishing.

So, what I did (Along with some major help from a friend that recently moved up to adults) was made a website for our bowling organization around here.  I was hoping that this would get more attention to our tournaments, and maybe get a few more signups to get some new faces showing up.  The tournaments around here are called "Gateways."  They're ran by the JBC (Junior Bowlers Club) of the Greater St. Louis area.  They're located in, and around, St. Louis, Missouri.

The format is:

3 Divisions: Majors +/- 150 | Classics +/- 170 | Masters +/- 190

Entry $30

Two Squads (A & B Squad) One starts at 8:30 am, the second bowls at 10:30
A Squad bowls 5 games.  At the completion of this five game block, B squad comes in and bowls their 5 games.  After the completion of B squad's games, A Squad comes back and bowls 5 more.  After those 5 games, B Squad bowls 5 more.
After both squads bowl 10 games, they take the top 8 (If there's less than 30 lanes) or Top 10 (If there's more than 30 lanes) from each squad.

The top 8 (or 10) come back at 8:00 am Sunday morning and bowl each opponent match play style. Winner getting 30 bonus pins, Ties get 15 each, and loser gets 0 bonus pins.

After bowling each opponent once, we bowl position round.

From then, the top 4 bowlers bowl stepladder finals.  The top 3 or 4 (depending on entries) gets scholarship.  Winner gets a championship banner and jacket.

It's really a lot of fun, great experience, and something for us junior bowlers that we can actually get some tournaments under our belt.

There's a full schedule of tournaments on our website, and a message board where we're hoping to get many bowlers active at.  So, if you're from around the St. Louis area, and are a junior bowler looking for some tournaments, please give the JBC Gateways a shot.  It's fun times, and a pretty good, professional atmosphere.

The website is: www.geocities.com/jbcstlouis

Thanks for your time.  And if you have any suggestions for questions in the F.A.Q., the tournaments, or the website, please feel free to ask.

It's only at certain tournaments that you bowl 20 when you make the cut, etc.  But the prize fund has taken a significant drop in the last few years.

Most of the time, if you make the cut, you bowl around 18 games.

I'm going to suggest that they up it to either $40 or $50 a person so that the prize fund gets a lot bigger, because if you factor in the price of gas and all that stuff, I didn't even make anything for getting 3rd.
