I was wondering if anyone is very successful lofting the ball, and what their average is? 'Cause I want to learn how to and if it's really worth it

i avergae 215 as a youth and i loft 1-2 feet i use to be really bad about it but have had to try and cut it down it's so bad i have to look at the foul line when i throw to keep it that low

It sounds like it takes a while to learn, but I guess if I learn it I can go after alot more patterns in a different way. That would definately put me in the 220's average wise

if u want a success story with lofting the ball brian valenta is a very good example this kid uses loft to a very large extreme but he uses it well.  If the heads start to go he will start lofting the ball to his reaction down the lane and i have seen him loft the ball up to 30 feet down the lane.  I don't recommand that for a sane person because that kid's game is sick but i know alot of power players that loft the ball a few feet down the lane cause if they don't  the ball will read the heads and take off

brian valenta is insane, whenever I think of his name I think of him lofting the ball 35 feet down the lane and striking out in the 10th frame to win World Team Challenge in 2004, pretty sick stuff!

A 67 year old man that I bowl with, lofts all the way out to the arrows and averages in the 190's. His loft may be what Sawbones refers to as a "Flinger", but I don't know.

lofting is nice in some situations but it is HARD TO do it consistantly...

We have a guy in our league that lofts usually near or past the arrows.

He is slower speed and seems to have more area than any other bowler Ihave ever seen except for two handers.  Two weeks ago he shot about 755 against us!

I once hear him described as accurate and I said "that's interesting.  Hit's the pocket a lot but is nowhere near his mark at 40 feet.  Anywhere from 15 to 3 at the break he strikes while on the Same condition many feel they have less than 3 boards at 50 feet!  

I have noted at this low volume oiled house(but long) that two styles work.

Fast or medium with loft.

I said to one of the top guys there(bowled there for 20 years).  Medium speed guy with loft.  I said "you have it down here...enough loft to play with medium speed".  He replied...I don't loft it but I used to and I've cut way down!

He is correct.  Only 6 or 7 feet and 8 inches above the lane...every ball!

Different styles for different conditions!

PS summary above.  On a condition like ours those who put the ball down on the line have NO strike area unless over 20 mph ball speed.  At same time those with comfy loft of 6 feet or more can play and strike at 15 mph!

Ask Mika about loft.  Or maximum Bob.  

There are times when I loft to or past the arrows - broken down heads, super dry late shift lane, etc.  I never worried about learning how - I just do it when I need to.

I loft the ball quit a bit. I have found that setting the ball down at the house I bowl at the ball seems to really be flat. I have found that if I can loft it about 4 or 5 feet out, I get a much better reaction. It also allows me to open up the lane by projecting the ball out.
