Looking for an edge ?
« on: February 25, 2010, 01:25:49 AM »
How far would one go, I was bowling league last night and heard a story of an incident which took place the night before and from what I hear is all over facebook.

A bowler was caught spitting into the thumb hole of the opposing teams balls.  This is not a first time occurrence, actually third time over a period of weeks.(same teams ) but first time it was witnessed and the individual approached.  As a side note, teams are first and second place in the standings.

Do you take this as grounds for suspension ? and should bowler be banned from the league.  Thoughts.

just ask for a captain''s meeting to vote on kicking him out if the league pres / secy don''t have the nerve too.

In my lg., the secy already told a team they weren''t welcomed next year. No vote needed in this case.

First of all, this should have been taken to the league referee immediately (I suppose you have someone with an official position?). This is a foul by any means, and IMHO the player should have been banned immediately for the rest of the day as a short trem measurement.

Additionally, I''d take this incident(s) as soon as possible (maybe before next league start) to a team captain''s meeting on the next occasion, for further dealing.
But I''d propose to ban the specific player (e.g. for the rest of the season, or for some more educational measure, any further league play in this house/league), not the team istelf (unless the whole bunch has this sick mind).

They might even think about erasing the player completely from the season''s record - all wood. Big punishment for the team, but this will surely hurt and create some tension among those knuckleheads - let them "kill" each other about one person''s dumbness and solve it internally...

Maybe it's just me, but I think I would take this a bit more personal than going to the league officials.

Here was one suggestion received : .. beside bad sportsmanship. talk about winning by any means necessary....i know one thing.. he hasnt spit in the "right" persons ball as yet.. i know a few bowlers that will leave him "spitless" and toothless

I have such a tough time believing this happened .. however if it was proven done .. yes I agree some action should be taking .. suspension sound good. Still question whether it was being done joking or was it being done viciously ..very hard for me to believe!

if it was me. id calmly walk over to the head of the league and be like see i have spit in my thumbhole done by the opposing team.

im sure immediatly theyd have to forfeit the game at a minimum. that would be the last time they do that im sure.

Not quite the the same, but I had an opposing team member put a lubricated condomn in my bowling ball going into the 10th frame with a perfect game up to that point. Try getting that out of the thumb hole.

UPDATE:  Ran into a league member who gave me the latest on the spitting incident.  League President presented the 'Spitter' a letter detailing charges and alerting him to a league meeting where a vote to determine his faith via suspension or expel. would take place.   36 team league, vote came up 2 shy to expel him from the league.  Don't know why people would vote to allow him to bowl..........not the first time he has been accused in multiple bowling facilities.  So sad people have to stoop so low.

So true... I believe a Capt. meeting is called... And the vote must be 100%..
At least in our league...

And it is seldom ever going to be that...100%...

So nothing happens but a little meaningless warning....

And then people wonder why league bowling's numbers are down....

And don't forget, you still have the pleasure of paying sanction fees to the USBC....
