what is more rare, 300 game or 7-10 split conversion in 2009?
« on: February 17, 2009, 12:08:59 PM »
just thought this might get some interesting feedback. it just seems like in 2009 every 3 weeks or so someone shoots a perfect game and i feel like the game is just not as tough as it once was. it may be a combination of more knowledgeable players, and of course better equipment, but i honestly would like to know the numbers i would assume a 7-10 split conversion is less common now than a 300 game right?  when i die i hope to say i have done the following;
1) 800 series
2)300 game
3) 7-10 split conversion

my father who averages "only" 205 actually picked up the 7-10 split and bowled his only 300 game in the same year! i tell them all the time all he needs is his 800!
lets face it... this isnt deadlifting or picking up women.. its BOWLING!!!! Stop acting tough when you roll 4 strikes in a row!!!

7-10 would be the rarest.

At the start of every series, you have a shot at an 800 series, you have 3 shots at a 300.

Personally, I've gone months without leaving the 7-10 split.

Hard to make them if you don't leave them.

Now if you're leaving 6-7 a night, different story.

I've seen the 7-10 made about 25-30 times since I started bowling in 1997.  I've seen 25-30 300s since December 1, 2008.

I've seen (1) 7-10 conversion , (1) big-4 conversion and at least (20) 300's since '96.

The 7-10 involves much more luck than skill.
I've seen 3 people pick up the 7-10 that have no shot at a 300 game or 800 series.
Myself, I have picked up the 7-10 twice, with three 300's, and one 800.
The USBC should start listing 7-10's and Big Four's on the member's profile.
Well, for that matter, Triplicate's, All-Spare's, Dutch 200's (I also have one of those, not a good thing).

I agree with the luck aspect of the 7-10 conversion.  I see 300s cross my desk every day as I input them into the computer.  They are mostly by fairly skilled bowlers.

However, rarely do I see a 7-10 come through and when it does its a guess as to the skill/average level of the bowler.  I've had ladies that average sub 130 with a 7-10 split conversion award.  How they do it is anyone's guess, I wasn't there.  But it has more to do with luck then repetition of motion like a 300 game, even on a house shot.

I think a 4-6, 8-10, 7-9 is hard to pick up too...

Nor Cal,

Not that you will get rewarded for them on Friday night, but we have local awards for the 4-6 and 8-10 split conversions.

7-10 conversion is much more difficult and rare.  I've only seen one made and I've seen about a dozen 300's bowled.  I have seen hundreds of 7-10s left.

You should try bowling here.  I see on my pair or the ones next to me, at least one left per league session.  Personally, I have had back to back 7-10s and had three in one series and I don't think that is the record for this house.  I've seen my anchor man leave one and then the other team's leadoff bowler leave one right after that.

Maybe I just need to pick your brain about what I am doing wrong.

We where 20 bowlers that where training on the 7 and the 10 pin. The brunswick machines just raised the 7-10. We bowled for 3-4hours just shooting on the 7-10, and we where not even close to convert it. So i would say that 7-10 is rarer than a 300.

How about back to back 7-10 onversions on the same lane!!!  About 5 years ago I did this(4th and 6th frames of the game). One lane in the house had the habit of spitting pins back on a regular basis for some reason. If you hit the 10 square, it was going somewhere besides the pit. We called that lane "The Ejaculator".I think we had about 10 conversions of the 7-10 that year.
