607A SE is great;; almost afarid to use it
« on: November 23, 2010, 02:23:44 PM »
The more I use my 607A the more I love it. Only problem is when i have a ball that good I like to "save" it.

Save it as my "go to" ball to get me out of a slump or give me a shot in the arm when I feel I need one, or save it so it won't get damaged (by a pin burn or whatever). Or save it so it will still be in "like new" condition when they stop producing it.

And I KNOW that sounds really stupid, too.

What I usually end up doing is actually putting the ball away for awhile (weeks, sometimes months), or actually going out and buying a second one....as a spare.

Over the years, there have only been 4 balls that I have felt that strongly about, but sure enough.... I did, in fact, go out and duplicate them. Have two of each of these:

Storm Triple X Factor, Storm Triple Xtreme, Ebonite Raid, and Hammer Anger.

It's dumb for a lot of reasons (even though I still use all of these balls), but I really don't want to buy a 2nd 607A, just to have it take up space in athe closet. And yet, every time I am throwing it, I worry that it's going to come back with a deep gouge in it.

Any suggestions .... besides a psychiatrist?

I'd buy a 2nd one if you feel that strongly about the 607A.  Leave it NIB.

FWIW....a lot of tournament bowlers don't use their tourney balls or great reaction balls in THS leagues and just use any ole ball for that as they normally result in good scores and save their great stuff for tourneys.

I do what Scotts33 said.  I have a couple of balls that I use for THS leagues and what not, but most of my arsenal was and is setup for tournaments.  The tournament balls don't get used much, but the THS balls get used a lot.  I even went as far as to drill up two balls just for practice last year so I wouldn't tear up the league/tourney gear when working on my game.  To each his own i guess.

if you love the 607A that much, you dont know what your missing by not having a 916AT. but if you match up with a ball that well, why wouldn't you want to throw it. you may be depriving yourself of a honor score if you dont use it. i say buy another, and throw the ball, thats what you bought it for. by the way, dont forget about the 916AT, its wicking awesome.

I like my 607, but I'd wait for the next '6' line ball, before I'd buy another to throw on a shelf.

I'm the same way. For me it has been the original Cell. I have two that get used, and I have four NIB in storage. When I find one for a good price, I will usually buy it and add it to my collection.

Yea, I have an issue.

Many people think that the newest and greatest ball is so much better than the one they drilled last year.  Lots of hype, which keeps all the manufacturers in business.  I agree with Scott.  If you like it that much, buy another with or close to the same specs (pin distance, Top Weight, and also if the pin and MB is in line). Keep it somewhere safe and wait for that day when the original is finally ready to be retired.  I have done this over the years for many balls and I really think its the way to go.

Neptune,

The ball you don't use can't help you in scoring.
Whenever I let a ball sit undrilled, once I drill it, I usually regret not having drilled it sooner.

The 607 seems very popular so I don't expect them to discontinue it any time soon. Use the one you got to be sure you "love" it, then get a 2nd one. THEN USE THE ONE YOU GOT WHENEVER YOU CAN. When the one you're using wears out, drill the back-up and buy another backup.

I didnt really matchup well with the 607A. It didnt handle wet/dry to well and when I hit it with surface, the ball was too smooth. The ball was condition specific for me and it only worked when the track area was burn. The layout was pretty good for the arsenal I had at the time but I sold it to a young lady that really needed a new ball. I hope she likes it because the other balls she owns dont suit her well. Just my opinion!

Thanks all.

Seems like I need to use it enough to win some money with it, THEN use the winnings to buy another one and keep it in the box.
